A self-described alcoholic whose addiction led to him living on the streets, Doug Brown’s life was changed when he heard a preacher speak at a dinner for the homeless. His heart was touched, and he turned his life over to the Lord leading to him becoming sober, getting a job, and eventually building a loving family.
Doug never forgot how it felt to be on the streets, and decided to do something to reach out to others who were struggling as he had. Starting with sandwiches in the parks of St. Petersburg, Doug’s efforts grew to include full meals hosted by volunteer teams throughout the week, eventually moving to St. Vincent de Paul’s.
Doug passed away in February, 2010, but his legacy continues through volunteers who faithfully serve unsheltered neighbors every night at St. Vincent de Paul’s.
