Meal Gap Programs

Pack-A-Sack 4 Kids

Pack-A-Sack 4 Kids addresses the issue of weekend hunger for children receiving free and reduced lunch. With approximately 10-15% of all children eligible for free or reduced school meals designated as chronically hungry, this is a vital program that pairs churches with a local school to provide weekend backpacks of food for students in need.

If your school, church or group is interested in learning more about this program, call our food programs office at 727-754-3974 or email

Summer BreakSpot

BreakSpot addresses the meal gap of children out of school for the summer. BreakSpot is a Florida-wide initiative sponsored through federal funding that provides free food to summer program sites includingsummer school, summer camps, the YMCA and summer church outreach programs. UMCM Suncoast recruits sites to host BreakSpots, as well as pilots non-traditional sites throughout Pinellas county. Our goal is to ensure that every child in need of food has access to food during the summer months.

Would you like to host a BreakSpot? Want to volunteer at an existing site? Call 727-754-3974 or email

We are grateful to Publix Super Markets Charities, which helped sponsor our 2018 Summer BreakSpot program and who will once again assist us in offering this much-needed program in 2019.
